playwriting
I use verbatim documentary theatre as a vehicle to amplify voices labeled ‘other’ and transmute personal pain into collective power. My second full-length play Primordial went up as a Core Production at The Tank (NYC) in February 2024, directed by The Tank's Artistic Director Meghan Finn. Primordial explores pregnancy and childbirth entirely from the perspective of my interviewees' experiences, distilled from 1100 pages of interview transcripts. It's a rallying cry to value and center maternal health. After seeing the run at The Tank, the NYC Health Department's Maternal Hospital Quality Improvement Network organized a reading of the play for the Health Department.
My first full-length play How We Love/F*ck had its world premiere at Cherry Lane Theatre (NYC), Sept - Oct 2019. The play explored intimacy and sexual expression and was based on my interviews with many women ranging in age from 25 to 89 years old. I'm also the author of That's How Angels Arranged inspired by my conversation with the legendary "Godfather of Avant Garde Cinema" and prolific documentarian Jonas Mekas. I was commissioned by the Metropolitan Playhouse in the East Village to create and perform this one-act documentary play.
My plays have been produced and developed at The Tank, Cherry Lane Theatre, Metropolitan Playhouse, NYC Fringe Festival, the United Nations, The NYC Department of Health, and Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
