The Origin WayMy goal is to respect and maintain the meaning, intention, and order of the words spoken by each person I interviewed. But then I’ve woven them all together to tell a story. So there are some monologues, but they add to this larger dialog and build into a kind of cacophony of experience. |
Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film InstituteLillian first connected with Meghan Finn, the show’s director, at LSTFI in 2010 when Meghan directed her in Ivanov. The playwright calls Meghan “a fireball of creative brilliance,” noting her “complete commitment to the art” and “her piercing capacity to know exactly what’s going on in people to bring out the best in everybody.” |
Front Row CenterThe overall effect is one of compassion, joy and wisdom. Here’s hoping the show will inspire us to seek more nuanced medical care, embrace cultural awareness and fight for rational legislation. |

How We Love/F*ck, a new play from powerhouse actor/writer Lillian Isabella, is a sex-positive theatre piece in response to the #MeToo movement where she looks to celebrate female sexuality, and how fun sex can be.
Press for How We Love/F*ck
Downtown MagazineHow We Love/F*ck explores sexuality with a simple honesty that draws you in, exploring a topic normally too taboo for discussion. That’s why we need it. How We Love/F*ck is the story of how Lillian and her subjects discovered themselves. It’s an archive of their mistakes and realizations, shared out loud because people need to tell them, and hear them. |
Front Row CenterLillian Isabella’s new play How We Love/F*ck is a declaration of joy to every part of our bodies and to our sexual and sensual appetites. The play is about taking control of our bodies and desires. I left the theatre feeling really good about being a woman. |
Theater ManiaI decided I wanted to create How We Love/F*ck, a sex-positive documentary play about female sexuality, right as the #MeToo movement was exploding into our collective consciousness in late 2017. The public airing of this long-repressed trauma, while powerful, was also deeply disturbing and painful. I started to have a strong drive to explore female sexuality from a positive perspective. What does it look like when we're having fun? 'Cause sex is supposed to be fun… you know? |
